Early life and career

Saverio began his musical career in Italy as a bass player of cult heavy metal band Astaroth.[2] At age 16, he recorded his first record "The Long Loud Silence"[3] for Dutch label Rave-on Records,[4] and toured[5] extensively throughout Europe with the band.[6]

In 1991, he began collaborating with Italian rockstar Vasco Rossi, who introduced him to such musicians as Vinnie Colaiuta and Michael Landau. He also launched collaborations with music legends Slash and Steve Vai. Saverio eventually opened Speakeasy Studios in the Hollywood Hills where international artists Elisa, Negrita, Doyle Bramhall II, Amaia Montero, Tiromancino,[7] and his partner Vasco Rossi, write and record.

Musical stylings

Saverio's song writing covers a vast musical field from rock to soul, world music to pop, including a cross-over opera record with mega-star Gino Vannelli, where they wrote the song “Canto” for BMG.

From 1991 he has run Sage Studio, an executive production firm that connects European and South American music projects, where he works with Eros Ramazzotti, Diego Torres, Myriam Hernandez, Adriano Celentano, Divididos, Tiziano Ferro, Jovanotti and many more. He also co-produced three songs for the Grammy winning album “Yo Canto” for Laura Pausini.

Television and film

Saverio also writes for the big screen as well as TV. He created the title track for Sony-ATV The Lodger[8] (Alfred Molina) with composer John Frizzel sung by soprano Sasha Lazard. His songs were used for NBC's Surrender Dorothy[9] (Diane Keaton), Marvel's Dr. Strange. Saverio also wrote and produced for Fox Family and wrote cues for The Oprah Winfrey Show and Dr. Oz and eventually produced the music for the CW network show "the Search for the next..." for the band The Pussycat Dolls.[10] Overseas, his music can be found in shows like Cesaroni, Medico In Famiglia, and Valley of The Dolls.[11]

Musical Partnerships

Saverio Principini produced the recordings of the duets of Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil with Italian music icon Franco Battiato and Leona Lewis with Biagio Antonacci which debuted at the top of the charts in Italy. Saverio wrote and produced music with cross over Opera soprano Filippa Giordano[12] for Sony Mexico.

With engineer Michael Tacci he produced The Tigers, an LA indie band that appears on the Thrive Records's compilation "His and Hers" of Amanda Scheer,[13] together with such talents as Oasis, Daft Punk and Ryan Adams.

He has worked with international producers such as Humberto Gatica, Pat Leonard, Geoff Westley, Joe Vannelli, Celso Valli, Lee Curreri and more recently Joe Chiccarelli and Claudio Guidetti. Saverio also conducted international music collaborations with John Shanks, Wyclef Jean and Sergio Mendez.

Recent years

In 2011 Saverio has entered a World Wide publishing deal with EMI Music and for two years, he has been the music director of Hit Week, a two week live event in New York and Los Angeles that showcases some of the best of the Italian musicians in the United States.[14]

His songs "Sto Pensando A Te" and "Manifesto Futurista della Nuova Umanita" that he wrote with Italian living-legend singer Vasco Rossi both went #1 in Italy and became certified multi-platinum recordings.

Saverio also owns Savana Records in Los Angeles, an indie label originally distributed by Whole Foods in the States that focuses on the promotion of less exposed music and has several recordings active, including Neo Soul-Reagge singer Amana Melome,[15] guitarist Fabio Mittino (with the recordings of music of G.I.Gurdjieff-T. DeHartmann) and an eclectic project called SOUP together with drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and guitarist Marcello Cosenza and guests John Beasley, Chad Fischer, Simone Sello and Alex Alessandroni, Jr.[16]

Among other ventures in 2007 he launched Rootdown Radio,[17] an internet commercial free radio station.
